چکیده

A technique for the exact design of the noise transfer function of Continuous-Time (CT) Sigma-Delta modulators with arbitrary and multiple DAC responses and real op-amps is here presented. The approach, that presupposes linear behavior of active blocks, produces a CT modulator with the same noise shaping as its DiscreteTime counterpart. The method operates entirely in the time domain and accounts for non-idealities of real implementations such as finite gain and bandwidth of integrators. The procedure can be effectively implemented with circuit simulators to allow the exact design with transistor level blocks. A design example on a third-order scheme confirms the effectiveness of the method.

Time-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators

The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

Design of Continuous-Time Σ∆ Modulators with Real Analog Blocks

The design of Continuous-Time (CT) Sigma-Delta modulator obtained by a discrete-time prototype is discussed. A proper heuristic transformation of the prototype enables an exact equivalence of CT and DT. This permits the trimming by computer simulations of the coefficients of the CT to account for the effect of real analog blocks. Simulation results for a second and third order scheme with real ...

Design of Continuous-Time Σ∆ Modulators with Sine-Shaped Feedback DACs

This work presents a general method to design continuous-time Σ∆ modulators with sine-shaped feedback DACs. A discrete time to continuous time transformation technique is used to compute the continuous-time loop filter coefficients, taking into account the sinusoidal feedback. Examples of high order lowpass and bandpass continuous-time Σ∆ modulators are given as an illustration for the proposed...

A New Method for Elimination of the Clock Jitter Effects in Continuous Time Delta-Sigma Modulators

In this paper the spectral density of the additive jitter noise in continuous time (CT) Delta-Sigma modulators (DSM) is derived analytically. Making use of the analytic results, extracted in this paper, a novel method for elimination of the damaging effects of the clock jitter in continuous time Delta-Sigma modulators is proposed. In this method instead of the conventional waveforms used in the...

Dual quantization continuous time ΣΔ modulators with spectrally shaped feedback

A new technique is proposed to eliminate the nonlinear error of a multibit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) used in a sigma-delta modulator where the solidity of multibit DAC against the clock jitter is reserved. By using dual quantization, this technique reduces the bit length of DAC to one bit and consequently eliminates its nonlinear error. A lowpass finite impulse response (FIR) filter wit...
